Let the fun Begin!

Are you ready foir an overload of pictures, updates, and lots of dirt??

We are...and have been for a LONG time. This is a blog, following our Family's (We are the Bingham's) adventures in remodeling.

A little history:

We are a family of 6, Mom and dad (Laura and George), and 4 kids (Cody-9, Madeleine-7, Katherine-2, and Quinby-1). Our home is great, just not quite big enough!

Here is what we are starting with:

  • 4 bedrooms

  • 2.75 batrooms

  • No *official* entry (front door comes right into the LR)

  • No Dining Room (only eat in Kitchen)

  • Current Squarefootage at 2,970

  • Detached garage/workshop

What we are adding:

  • 2 bedrooms

  • 1.5 bathrooms

  • office

  • Formal Dining Room

  • Formal Entry

  • Mud Room at attach to garage

  • Making current master walk-in closet larger

  • adding 1300 Square feet

So, once I get some photos organized, I will begin adding.

This project was really started in the fall/winter of 2006. We knew we needed more space, as we were adding to our family. George's Brother-In-Law is an architect in the Seattle area, and was wonderful to put plans together for us. Of course, they took a while (reasons being, Scott is busy, and we were a *side job*, and by the time we thought we knew what we wanted, we needed to add more for an even more growing family!!)

We got several bids form various contractors, and finally decided on Newrock Homes in July 2009. Living where we live, we had been told the permit process could be a nightmare. It was not any better for us....Months later, October 2009, we were ready to begin. Unfortunately, our foundation had other ideas. Our home was built in 1930 (and had an addition in the 70's, and another in 1994). Just as we were to break ground and start excavation, we discovered the old part of the house had a fieldstone and mortor foundation....nowhere near what was needed for a second story. So, we consulted with engineers, the architect, and the contractor even more.

February4, 2010.... Excavation begins! It is finally happening. I am giddy with excitement. Even looking forward to the pains of construction. Not being able to take a vacation, loud noise all the time, mud everywhere, and lots of $$$. It will be so worth it.
